A Settel cook day: the batch log open on a laptop between the stove, prepped vegetables, containers and labels

Settel No decisions. Just dinner.

One kitchen. A full stack built around it to support operations.

Settel is a licensed home food processing establishment (HFPE): one person, a rotating menu, servicing communities in central Iowa. The storefront, the subscriber app and the tooling that handles the paperwork and documentation were all built in house. This page is about that second half.

A printed Settel product label listing ingredients, allergens and prep date

HFPE licensing requires a labeled package for every item that leaves the kitchen: ingredients in descending order, allergens, net weight, etc. Every label Settel printed came out of the recipe tooling rather than a template hand typed for every meal.

The Settel weekly menu page

The half nobody sees.

Four things sit behind the kitchen. A storefront publishes the weekly menu and handles the orders. A Daily Log app gives subscribers a place to track what they eat. A recipe tool turns ingredients into a nutrition panel, its cost per serving and its label. A document generator produces the compliance records the license requires. The last two replaced an afternoon of spreadsheets with a repeatable standard operating procedure.

Daily Log. Awareness, not restriction.

Daily Log is a companion app built for subscribers. It lets users track meals against daily protein and calorie targets, with Settel’s menu items already loaded as system foods, so a subscriber can log dinner by name instead of entering it ingredient by ingredient. No streaks, no scores, no notifications asking where you went.

A week of Daily Log data exported and charted

Daily Logs export to a single view. One day tells you very little. A week starts to show a pattern. Analyze your data over time and you get results.

Every recipe gets a standard document. Every batch gets logged against license requirements and standards.

The kitchen is the small part. Everything built to support it is what lets one person run it.
